The total votes casted was 122,702. William H. Meyer (Democratic) was elected, receiving 51.45% of the votes, which equals 63,131 votes. Winston L. Prouty (Republican) won the previous election in 1956.Robert T. Stafford (Republican) won the following election in 1960.
