From OpenVoteData

The state legislatures of the United States are the legislative bodies of each of the 50 U.S. states. These legislatures are responsible for creating state laws, approving budgets, and representing the interests of the citizens within their respective states. Each state legislature is bicameral, with the exception of Nebraska, which has a unicameral legislature. The bicameral legislatures consist of a lower house, often called the House of Representatives or Assembly, and an upper house, known as the Senate. State legislators are elected by the residents of their states and serve terms that vary in length depending on the state. State legislatures play a crucial role in the governance and legislative process at the state level, addressing issues specific to their states and contributing to the federal system of the United States.
